Flawed investigations, cognitive bias, and prosecutorial misconduct play an important role in wrongful child abuse convictions/Shaken Baby Syndrome cases and other science-dependent prosecutions. In fact, while lawyers often worry that they lack adequate scientific knowledge to address child abuse cases, problems often run deeper and include the failure to investigate and other legal missteps. From interviewing family members and child witnesses to unveiling law enforcement bias to choosing your expert witnesses, this session aims to provide additional tools to challenging a SBS conviction.
