Stephen Braga has been recognized as one of the "Best Lawyers in America," the "Top 100 Lawyers in Washington, DC," the "Top Ten Criminal Defense Attorneys in the United States" and the "Top 100 Trial Lawyers." He has also received numerous other awards. From 1995-2008, Mr. Braga led the successful effort to free Marty Tankleff from his wrongful murder convictions. Mr. Braga took the lead pro bono role in freeing Damien Echols of the West Memphis Three from death row in Arkansas and is continuing to act as Echols' attorney today. He has been a full-time faculty member at the University of Virginia School of Law since August 2012, where he directs the Law School's Appellate Litigation Clinic in addition to teaching criminal defense.
